Huge Lake Michigan Steelhead

The Wisconsin steelhead season is in full swing right now. Lake Michigan rivers have a good number of fish in them, and a good number of fisherman as well. A day trip to Sheboygan this last weekend was a huge success after landing my personal best steelhead. A male coming in at 34”x17” took a size 8 yarn fly right at the end of the day. They key to catching fish was walking and trying to get away from fisherman. Finding spots that hadn't been fished meant a lot higher chance of finding active, feeding fish.

Moving north, the Lake Superior streams still have quite a bit of snow on their banks. The rain currently moving through should take care of a lot of it, and will also increase water levels. The Brule remains consistent with a good amount of hold over fish present, but the smaller tribs need the snow to melt and water temps to rise before the fishing gets good.
